Youth On Target is a New York City-based children’s theatre company, formed in the summer of 2006. The company works to create a product that is both family-friendly and thought provoking. Youth on Target is committed to presenting  forward thinking theatre for young audiences. Working with professional adult actors, the end product preserves both educational value and artistic merit.

In 2008 Youth on Target produced a newly devised version of Cinderella. Using the methods of Suzuki and Viewpoints the cast created a unique and modern take on the classic fairy tale. Both light-hearted and serious, Youth on Target’s production focuses on the way that individuals deal with loss.

At the start of the play Cinderella and her family have suffered a great
loss.  Humor, romance, material distraction, family and friends all play a roll in how the characters cope with loss.  Youth On Target poses several questions in this piece. Should Cinderella pursue the prince, or is he just a replacement or a distraction? How do you strike a balance between finding strength in others and finding strength in yourself? Can you help someone else, when you need help yourself?

Laurel Graeber, The New York Times, wrote:

"Forget about a wicked stepmother and a pumpkin-turned-coach. Cinderella's mother is very much alive, and Cinderella is not so much persecuted as immobilized by grief. This whimsical... retelling seems most suited for the era of ''Sex and the City.'' (Don't worry; no traces of Samantha.) The Fairy Godmother narrates in a Carrie-esque voice-over, introducing Cinderella's mother, a newly widowed careerist who is the Prince's assistant, and her older [siblings]. They're not mean to Cinderella just mystified by her lack of interest in fashion, makeovers and the Prince. This whirl, for ages 7 and older, doesn't lack for surprises."
