Cinderella (re-done)

Picture
In 2008 Youth on Target produced a newly devised version of Cinderella. Using the methods of Suzuki and Viewpoints the cast created a unique and modern take on the classic fairy tale. Both light hearted and serious, Youth on Target’s production focuses on the way that individuals deal with loss. At the start of the play Cinderella and her family have suffered a great loss. Humor, romance, material distraction, family and friends all play a roll in how the characters cope with loss. Youth On Target poses several questions as they revisit this piece. Should Cinderella pursue the prince, or is he just a replacement or a distraction? How do you strike a balance between finding strength in others and finding strength in yourself? Can you help someone else, when you need help yourself?

In 2009 Youth On Target received a Space Grant, to rework Cinderella.

The New York Times called Cinderella "fun", "whimsical" and "offbeat” and the TDF Play by Play blog said that “Youth on Target's mission reminds me of the late, great Wendy Wasserstein's initiative to make theatre accessible to hundreds of High School students... Ms. Wasserstein would be proud to know that other artists, such as Youth on Target, are following in her footsteps”.
